Largemouth Bass
The 140-metre fishing bridge divides more than the reservoir. Around it, shallow weeds and submerged stumps turn every clean opening into largemouth water; toward Valens Dam, the basin opens into a deeper 5–7-foot fishing zone shared with pike. HCA's boat-electrofishing record found largemouth catches relatively stable through its sampling period, enough to make bass a real Valens target without dressing it up as a destination fishery.

The lake-specific choice is cover or open water. Around the bridge, heavier weeds and hidden stumps force you to work the gaps without burying every presentation.
The Canadian Sportfishing source explicitly frames this as the largemouth zone. Move toward Valens Dam and the water opens into a deeper area, averaging 5–7 feet in that source, where bass mix with northern pike.
6-metre maximum depth at the dam, so the direction holds even though no contour map is published. The season starts only when HCA lifts its annual closure on the fourth Saturday in June.
From there through fall, the bridge cover and dam openings are the two defensible patterns; finer seasonal movements were not documented.
Structure
The expert angler source describes a 5–7-foot fishing zone with open pockets and both bass and pike. HCA independently confirms that the reservoir's 4.6-metre maximum depth sits at the dam.
Heavier weeds and submerged stumps make this the documented largemouth cover pattern. The bridge itself is an official HCA feature completed in 1977.
